The US government is giving people more time to apply for a specific work visa (H-1B Visa) for the year starting October 2024.

There was a problem with the website people use to apply, so the deadline was extended from March 22nd to March 25th at noon Eastern Time.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Reason for Extension: The extension is due to technical issues experienced by some registrants with the online registration system.
  2. Registration Process: During the extended period, businesses or their representatives must use an online USCIS account to register each person they wish to sponsor for an H-1B visa. They must also pay a fee for each person registered.
  3. Notification Timeline: USCIS still intends to notify selected applicants by March 31, 2024, despite the extension.
  4. Introduction of myUSCIS Organizational Accounts: USCIS launched a new organizational account called myUSCIS on February 28, 2024. These accounts facilitate collaboration among multiple individuals within a company and their legal representatives for H-1B registrations and petitions.
  5. Requirement for Participation: Companies must create a myUSCIS organizational account to participate in the H-1B registration process.
  6. Tech Talks Sessions: USCIS has been conducting Tech Talks sessions since February 2024 to assist users in understanding the new process. These sessions cover organizational accounts and online filing of Form I-129 for H-1B petitions.
  7. Encouragement to Attend Sessions: USCIS encourages all individuals involved in the H-1B process to attend these Tech Talks sessions to understand the process better. More information and session dates are available on the USCIS website.
