Supreme Court Halts Texas Immigration Law Amid Controversy

The Supreme Court stopped Texas’ immigration law. This law lets state police arrest people they think came to the country without permission.

Justice Samuel Alito said the law can’t start until March 13. This gives time for the court to think more about the case. It doesn’t show which way the court is considering.

The Biden government and some immigration groups asked the court to stop the law. They filed an emergency request just before.

Without this, the law would start on March 10. The Justice Department said this would greatly change how immigration works between the U.S. and states.

The law, called Senate Bill 4, was made by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in December. Many people worry it will make police target Latinos in Texas.

Last week, a judge in Austin stopped Texas from starting this law.

As per the CNN report, The judge said if this law starts, other states might make their own immigration laws.

An appeals court stopped the judge’s decision. They said the law will start soon if the Supreme Court doesn’t act.
