The US government makes it easier for people to apply for US Citizenship if their gender identity isn’t male or female.
A new version of Form N-400, used for naturalization applications, will include a third gender option, “X,” alongside “Male (M)” and “Female (F).”
Starting April 1, 2024, you can choose “X” for gender on the naturalization application.
What’s New:
- The updated Form N-400 introduces a third gender option, “X,” for applicants who don’t identify as male or female.
- Applicants filing the new form on or after April 1, 2024, can choose “X” as their gender.
- Those with pending applications using the previous form version can request to update their gender to “X” starting April 1, 2024.
- USCIS is working on updating other forms to include the “X” gender option, but until then, naturalization certificates will be the only USCIS-issued documents reflecting this choice.
