The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) wants to open new offices in Qatar and Turkey. These offices will help process refugees and collaborate with other groups.
The Biden-Harris administration plans to accept 125,000 refugees this year. USCIS will help with this by opening offices in Qatar and Turkey, which are important places for handling refugees in that part of the world.
In Qatar, USCIS will set up an office at Camp As Sayliyah, part of the U.S. embassy there. In Turkey, it will be in the U.S. Embassy in Ankara.
“Opening these field offices establishes a USCIS presence and expertise in critical locations in the Middle East and is part of our commitment to the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to facilitate safe, lawful, and orderly migration and family reunification,” said USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou.
“Our presence in Qatar and Turkey expands USCIS’ footprint outside the United States, supports our humanitarian mission, and strengthens the integrity of the U.S. immigration system.”
Qatar is an important place where refugees in the region get help. People from the U.S. government who help refugees work there.
They have an office at Camp As Sayliyah in the U.S. embassy. Sometimes, they also meet people at the U.S. Embassy in Qatar for appointments.

Turkey is essential for helping refugees in the area. A center in Turkey helps refugees from Turkey and nearby places.

At these new offices, USCIS staff will process forms for refugees and help spot fraud. People can only go to these offices by appointment.
These new offices will join USCIS’s other international offices in China, Guatemala, and Kenya. The office in Qatar will open on May 7, 2024, and the one in Turkey on May 9, 2024.
