USCIS Reducing Processing Times for These Forms

A new fact sheet released by the USCIS shows that many application wait times have shortened.

The fact sheet says people who apply for immigration benefits, work permits, and citizenship will no longer have to wait long to get approval.

Here are some important points from the report

  • Permits to work in the US for people seeking asylum or on parole – less than 30 days.
  • Becoming a U.S. citizen – only 5.2 months on average, the fastest since 2016.
  • Permits to work in the US while you wait for your green card – just 3.6 months, the quickest since 2017.
  • Permission to travel outside the US while your application is being processed – down to 4.4 months, the best since 2018.
  • Applications for certain work visas – only 2.7 months on average.

USCIS said they are still working on some more forms because forms like waivers of unlawful presence processing times are still too long.

They are also making improvements for immigrant investors, hiring more staff, and making sure everything is done with integrity.

Starting April 1, 2024, they’ve adjusted some fees for immigration and naturalization requests for the first time since 2016. This will help them cover their costs better and process applications faster.
